Got the Job!

I got the job I applied for. I start on Jan 19.

Scariness!

I mean, it's exciting but at the same time is kinda stressful to know that I have under a month to get the PhD into an almost finished version.

I told my PhD supervisor yesterday that in between job interviews, doctors appointments, and brain cell deterioration due to stress, I'm doing in a week what it would usually take a day to do in terms of my thesis progress!!

I'm taking four days off - the Christmas weekend and two public holidays - to rejuvinate, but I *have* to get it done. I'll be fine doing minor corrections in the evenings once I start working full time, but I'm also going to have to support hubby going through daily radiation therapy which begins on Jan 9.

Hubby had his permanant tattoos done today for the radiation therapy. He's loving making friends with all the people at the radiation therapy department at the hospital.

He went for lunch to Glebe (I was at a work Christmas picnic) and he and spotted Russell Crowe having lunch and went up to say "Hi" and got a "How are ya going, mate?" back and he took a few photos of old Russ.

I think that topped his encounter last week with Tim from Big Brother. My "star" spotting the other week of Grant Hackett at Melbourne airport (with some sour-faced blonde) and Jeff Kennett in the Melbourne CBD don't even rate. lol

Meanwhile, I haven't bought hubby a present for Christmas yet.

Suggestions??

Congratulations on getting the job, Jez. It's going to be a big change, but it'll bring new opportunities for you. You'll do well at it, methinks, and I wish you all the best.

Congratulations, I knew you would get the job, however it was a good thing you listened to me and wore your lucky pink undies to the interviews. ;)

Congrats on the job Jezzy. Enjoy all that lack of time you have to spend in the dungeon!

If hubby likes to cook, you could always go out and buy a superdooper knife or pan or something. Mattman is getting a Global knife for the second year in a row, but he also really liked the Le Creuset pan he got one time too!

Yay! I'm so glad you got the job. It'll be rough running the gauntlet of fire between now and then, what with working on the phd and supporting the hubby emotionally. I know that you have limited time to work on things, but you should designate one day "I ignore my Phd day" and just relax so your brain can be sharper for working on it the rest of the time. At least, that always helps me if I'm feeling too distracted to focus.

I have no idea what to buy hubby for Christmas as what is good for one guy is not typically good for another....hum. Alex is getting a geek dvd he wanted, some geek books, a bottle of mandarine napoleon (a french liquor he loves), and a cd he wanted. Oh, and in his stocking, I have underwear, choccies, and a can of tomato soup...LOL See, he spend several years over in England and he LOVES Heinz tomato soup. You can't get it in France, and typically you can't get it in America too...but you CAN get it at a specialty shop they have a half an hour away from my house :) So I got him a can of soup and a flake bar, two items usually only found in England that he misses. I also got him some godivas because I never let him eat mine, so I thought I'd let him have his own box.

I'm totally broke, but my visa card gives me amazon.com gift certificates if I charge X amount, and I just saved them during the year so I could cover Alex and the kids for the holidays. It sure did help!

S.C. - I love South Park! And well, everyone seems to know someone who knows Russ and they all seem to think he's a bit of a tosser. Ah well, he was nice to hubby - although the photos taken look very paparazzi in style!

ginchy - that whole thing about husbands cooking reminds me of something Nanny Ogg says near the start of her cookbook regarding the way husbands make a big fuss to cook and leave the pans in the sink "to soak". lol

Jill - thanks hon. All the best for you and your hubby too.

Kira - yeah, at the moment, the feeling I get from the PhD is that I wanna make a lovely bonfire and burn it all. Die! Die, thesis!!! lol - ah well. I thought Heinz was universal, but I guess you guys have Campbells. We have both. Tomato soup, eh? That reminds me of being a kiddy - we'd have tomato soup with toast for lunch almost every weekend. We liked it. I don't think we had a clue that the reason our diet was so basic was because my parents were totally broke back then!

Momma Bear - I'm sorry to hear about your sister. I guess you'll be missing her heaps and heaps this Christmas. All the best to you too. x

Pink - yep - I left it all really late! I just wasn't in the Christmas mood beforehand. x

Rich - thank you, that's sweet. And all the best to you too.

Hey, well done, Jezzy - I knew you'd get it! You have to balance the bad with the good, and this job is the good!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Jezzy--we have heinz, but only certain products. For instance, we have their ketchup...but I've never seen their tomato soup anywhere (except the specialty store). Yes, mostly we have campbell's instead! Tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich: great comfort food!
