Almost Two Years!

Tomorrow is our 2nd year wedding anniversary.
Yep - on Valentine's Day. Awww.

It's actually pretty hard for me to believe that I've been a married woman for two years. I mean, that just sounds too grown-up for me! But I'm looking forward to it.

We've been through so much in the last two years. Not the least in the last few months.

In a sense, I guess that's what wedding vows are all about - going through all of it - richer and poorer, good times and bad, sickness and health.

I was thinking about those vows - those words that we said to each other two years ago - and it occurred to me that we expect those things from all of our close friends, not just our spouses.

When a friend deserts us because things aren't going well for us, we think of them as "fair weather friends" - they're not the real deal, they're not the ones we ultimately come to see as our long-term "gold" friends.

I guess my point is that there are many in life who we come to rely on to support us through good times, and bad, sickness and health, and all of the above. Of course, a spouse is something different - I truly believe we were made to be one on our wedding day and there's nothing as special as that bond - but on a day like Valentine's Day, I think it's important to express our love for all of the people in our lives who stick by us no matter what, who love us no matter what, who have done so much for us, and for whom we are truly grateful.
