A weekend in the life of Jezzy

Saturday

10am: Woke up. Thought "Crap, I have to be in North Sydney by 11am".
Had quick shower, got changed into yoga pants and t-shirt and got
Hubby to drive me to my Bollywood dance class.

11.01am: Woohoo - make it there just in time. Hubby decided to hang
around the area and meet up with his friend, Bob (not his real name)
who lives nearby. I do dance classes with my friend, Jane (not her
real name either). It's a good laugh. I'm not terribly co-ordinated
and therefore don't take it too seriously, but I do believe that
exercise should be fun.

12:05pm: Hubby is waiting for me outside the class. We decide to walk
from North Sydney to Sydney University. This is a long walk! Setting
out walking over the Harbour Bridge, I can only think of one word to
describe the view - glorious. All blue skies and sparkling waters. I'm
in love with my city. All her faults and charms. She puts on some
spectacular Winter days - sunny and clear, yet cool. It's just lovely.

1pm: We stop for some sushi on George St. Not a bad place - not nearly
as good as that amazing sushi place at Rhodes, but not bad considering
the ultra cheap price.

2.30pm: Arrive at Sydney University. Again, it's such a picturesque
place and, like the view over Sydney Harbour, I never tire of the Main
Quadrangle. Check it out here:
http://sydneyarchitecture.com/INW/INW01.htm

I pick up some PhD chapters my supervisor has corrected from my office
there and then we walk down to Redfern station and catch a train back
up to Wynyard.

3.10pm: We walk from Wynyard, through The Rocks, and back over the
Bridge to North Sydney where we left the car. I called my parents to
invite them over for dinner. We swing by the local shops on the way
home to buy a loaf of bread and some damper rolls from the bakery and
rocket, vine tomatoes, eggs, camenbert and zucchini from the
greengrocer.

5.30pm: I start cooking dinner. I'd planned on making hamburgers and
had just finished making some breadcrumbs when I realise the minced
beef in the fridge smells kinda weird. I dump it in the bin outside.
Dammit! Also, I wanted to make chips but I have no potatoes. There
goes those plans!

5.45pm: I run down to the local butcher and realise that they've just
closed. Hmmm. How to make hamburgers with no mince meat? I decide to
buy a BBQ chicken from a chicken and salad bar. I also pick up a
portion of roast vegetables.

6pm: I carefully slice pieces of breast meat from the BBQ chicken,
peeling away the skin, then I brush them with a little pesto and pop
them on the grill just for a few minutes. There, that looks homemade.
lol! I add some grilled zucchini to the roast veggies and sprinkle the
whole thing with some dukka. Hmm, that looks homemade too! Okay, ditch
the beetroot which prolly won't go with the chicken and slice up an
avocado instead. Grill damper rolls with cheese, add chicken, tomato
relish, avocado and rocket and voila! Done.

6.30pm: Where are parents? Mum said they'd come at 6pm! Frantically
ring both their mobile phones and neither of them answer. I start
thinking that maybe they were in a car accident and then tell myself
off for my constant paranoia.

7pm: Parents finally arrive. Eat cold hamburgers.

8:30pm: Parents go home. I veg out in front of the TV while Hubby
plays about on the Internet.

10:30pm: Feeling sleepy but have to go out because of the World Cup.
England vs Portugal is on tonight and Hubby must be around other
English lads to enjoy soccer. I much prefered the last World Cup in
Japan/Korea when the matches were actually on during the day!

11pm: Arrive at Gav's friend Bob's house (as I said, not his real
name. I just like using the name Bob because it's funny. Bob. lol).
Drink glass of red. Hmmm, very nice. Bob has been drinking way too
much and is very hyperactive. Then he starts getting all mellow
listening to James Blunt and starts crapping on about some girl who he
can never be with. Gawd - I tell him he's being too serious for a
Saturday night.

Sunday

12:30am: A group of us head on down to the Rag and Famish pub. The
boys drink Stellas. I drink vodka/cranberries.

1am: Kick-off. High spirits. Lots of alcohol. Good game. But sadly,
it's nil all at full time and the score remains the same after extra
time. The boys cringe as the game goes to penalties. England always
lose when the game goes to penalties.

I have no idea what time: England lose in the penalties.

I still have no idea what time: We walk back to Bob's apartment and
crash out on the sofa.

8am: Hubby wakes me up. He's laughing and I realise that it's because
Bob's flatmate is having sex with some random girl in his room. Ew!
TMI for my poor ears! We gather our things and quietly leave.

8:15am: We get home and flop onto the bed and continue to sleep.

12:15pm: I wake up, Hubby is making brunch. We then walk to Chatswood
and walk around the shops before heading home. Hubby's birthday is in
two weeks and he wanted to show me this cookbook that he wants. We
grab the Sunday paper on the way home and read the various sections.

4pm: I sit down and work on the PhD. I'm reading through carefully
from the beginning and making final changes and fixing up the
language, etc. It's very, very tiring work.

6pm: We go to my parent's house for dinner.

9pm: Drive home. Watch some TV. I realise I've spent most of the day
asleep and decide, what the hell, I'm still tired. We go to bed early.

11pm: Still not asleep as was having insane, animated conversation
with Hubby about farting.

12 midnight: zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......

The Sushi place at Rhodes is the one opposite the movies? That place is pretty good.. though they wouldn't give me take away one night even though my girlfriend used to get it there all the time. I used to live in Rhodes and haven't been back for Sushi there since we moved to Manly.. I think we should go back.

Sounds like a great weekend! I didn't even think about the World Cup issue as far as the time goes. Wow, what a pain in the ass to have to watch the game so late! Alex and I were talking online while he watched the England/Portugal game. Since he's half English, he does root for the English team (unless they're playing France...then he roots for France over England, but his brother James roots for England over France). Alex was disappointed over the loss, but thrilled that France somehow managed to beat Brazil. He had even told me after the England game, "Well, and in three hours France will be knocked out by Brazil too." That was a pleasant surprise for him.

I hate it when I get all set to make something and I'm missing a key ingredient for some reason, can't get another, and have to redo the meal planning entirely. That used to happen a lot more when I lived in rural nowhere because the grocery was so damned far away.

Anon - I'm guessing you're Whitey. Hmm, you've been sushi-discriminated? How wrong.

Kira - Yeah - go France - they've been doing really well.

I must say, I've been really spoilt any have always had shops within close walking distance. It's probably been a bad thing though - I'm not nearly as organised as I should be! I can't imagine living in a rural area. I'd run out of everything!
