Yet another meme that's been festering in my "drafts" for weeks.
Two parts of your cultural heritage:
1. Indian
2. Malaysian
Two things that scare you:
1. Scared that Hubby's cancer could come back. Actually, I'm more
scared that thing won't be picked up in his blood tests or scans until
it's too late. A friend from church died last week - she was first
diagnosed with cancer only a month before Hubby - but it came back -
spread to her lungs, and didn't respond to treatment. It's a horrible
disease - so very frightening.
2. Lack of financial security. Feeling stressed about how to pay
bills, how to get by, how to support any additional family members if
I get preggers. Not that I'm trying to get pregnant right now!
Two fears you overcame:
1. I'm no longer scared to admit that I'm not a superwoman. I'm
humbled by, and respect, the very real and personal achievements of
others rather than feeling like I have prove myself all the time to
gain some sort of recognition.
2. I'm no longer intimidated by the "big corporate men" in charge of
large organisations. They're just boys in suits.
Two of your everyday essentials:
1. Water and chewing gum. I suffer from chronic dry mouth and I have
to sip on water or chew gum constantly to stimulate saliva or I end up
with a parched mouth - which isn't that nice!
2. Flat-heeled shoes. I love the look of high heels but I'm one of
those girls who just values comfort and being able to walk. Which
means I don't fit in with the group of people I currently work with -
they're all ultra-trendy with stilettos and tight clothes but, you
know, I'm sitting at this desk all day - I'm not seeing clients, no
one really cares what I look like - I just want to be comfortable and
I'd rather do that than try to fit in!
Two things you are wearing right now:
1. My really flattering black trousers that *don't* make my botty look big!
2. Yup - Flat-heeled shoes. They're gorgeous, comfy, Italian leather
ones that I got on sale not long ago. Love a bargain!
Two things you wore too much of this year:
1. My really flattering black trousers - ha!
2. My blue Bonds hoodie top at home. It's comfort clothing - the
equivalent of comfort food - but for the outside.
This years favourite bands or musical artists:
Hmmm. These aren't songs released this year, but the two songs
currently on highest rotation on my ipod are:
1. Flame Trees - Cold Chisel
2. Hyperballad (Brodsky Quartet version) - Bjork.
Followed by Northern Lad - Tori Amos, Perfect Now - Sarah Blasko,
Bertie - Kate Bush, Wish You Well - Bernard Fanning, Any Day - Missy
Higgins.
Two things you want in a relationship:
1. Constant love, cuddles, friendship and support.
2. Someone who listens and understands.
Best movies of all time:
These aren't necessarily the "best", IMO, but I can watch them again and again.
1. Muriel's Wedding
2. High Fidelity
Two things you hate:
1. Political spin - the crap that gets said - by both sides of
politics - to justify the shit they do. What an insult to our
intelligence.
2. People who say "I'm not racist, but..."
Two of your favourite hobbies:
1. Blogging. lol
2. Eating. And reading and listening to music and playing my piano and
rambling about crap to my friends.
Two things you learnt this year:
1. People change and move on and make surprising decisions. Don't
think they'll behave in ways you can predict. And you don't have any
control over that - accept it.
2. Things can collapse/change/disapear in the twinkling of an eye.
Don't take anything for granted.
Two accomplishments you were proud of this year:
1. Finishing my PhD thesis
2. Buying a lovely house
Hang on, I need a third one here - I'm very, very proud of Hubby and
how he's coped with having cancer.
Two things you want really badly:
1. A special treatment that would prevent Hubby's cancer from returning.
2. One million dollars. That's all. It's not too much to ask for, is it?
Two places you went to last year:
1. Blue Mountains
2. Central Coast
Okay - I haven't ventured more than a couple of hours out of Sydney
lately. Geez - I remember the days when I went overseas every year!
Two places you want to go on vacation:
1. Italy
2. India
Two things you want to do before you die:
1. Have kids.
2. Have grandkids.
Two ways that you are a stereotypical example of your gender:
1. I love Mr Darcy *swoon*
2. My cheeks burn when a really, really good-looking guy with sparkly
eyes talks to me. Surely I should have already grown out of that by
now! lol
Two things that make you stand out from your gender:
1. I don't need to be wined and dined or treated like a princess to be
impressed by someone. Big displays of affection just seem fake to me.
I'd happy with someone who I can trust and hold onto and who sees me
as an equal, rather than with someone who feels the need to impress me
to win me over.
2. I'm not part of the fashionista crowd. I do like to look nice, but
I don't feel the need to buy $500 jeans or $300 shoes to prove myself.
It's too wanky. Like the female equivalent of guys driving
penis-extensions.
Two things which are so over-rated:
1. Sex.
2. Paris Hilton.
Two things you will do in the next two hours:
1. Get on a bus and go home.
2. Lie in front of the TV and let my brain empty out.
Nah - I'm not tagging anyone. Take it and use it if you so choose.

Jez,
Love your comments. Being the "oldster" a lot of what you mention strikes chords with me. Growing up is not "getting old", but becoming aware. Aware that all is not perfect, aware that time is but one thing,... fleeting, aware that love is where you find it,.. so cherish it as long and whenever you can, aware that your own time in this world is too short to be intimidated, angry, or mean spirited to others.
I find Helen Keller's words a good code to mull over, "Life is either an adventure,...or it is nothing."
You've made good choices, you are growing into full "awareness" of life, and you sound like you are beginning to accept you.
