I've been spending Sunday arvo weeding in my garden.
Some weeds are easy to kill.
You just get the pressurised weed pump spray and let it rip. The ones around the back of the pool were like these. You don't really have to concentrate too much to get rid of them, there's no other plants nearby. In two weeks time, they'll be weed corpses.
Other weeds grow through the cracks and pebbles in the driveway.
Those are easy to get rid of too. You just point and spray with the weed gun, being careful of the nearby garden beds.
Other weeds grow in the garden beds. You can easily dig most of them out, making sure you get all the roots so that they don't grow back. You have to do it, bit by bit, on a regular basis so they don't overrun your garden.
The worst weeds, however, are the ones that grow through the middle of rose bushes.
For weeks I just pulled at them because I couldn't get to the roots properly and they just grew back the next week. But today, I was more determined. I took off the garden gloves (as I couldn't feel properly with them on) and I dug with my shovel and felt around with my fingers for the roots of the weeds.
It worked. I got the weeds out by the roots!
Although now I'm covered in cuts from the rose thorns and my nails are utterly destroyed and caked in mud.
I know they'll grow back eventually but they're gone for now and it felt good to get to the root of them. Those were the hardest weeds to get rid of but the most satisfying to see gone.
Yes, I suppose there's something symbolic in there somewhere - make what you want of it.

Symbolic?......make what you want of it?
OK...........actually, I'll resist, my last post here was a bit too agro....so instead I'll take your post as read, on face value and make no mention of controlling one's enviroment.
Bugger... I wasn't going to make those sort of comments this time......must weed out all such thoughts..... oh, there I go again. :(
Jezzy, good on you for being vigilant, not only do you eradicate nuisance weeds, but also weeding is a great way to keep fit. Don't worry about your nails, like the weeds, they'll grow back
:)
Ouch, roses..thorns, ouch again. Weeds are just the bain of any gardener's life aren't they? The next would have to be the little bugs that eat away at the leaves of nice plants.
Sad really, we are in drought here and the weeds continue to grow :(
I'll take weeds over all this damned snow. I'm sick of winter, and I'm ready to give it all back to my friends on the opposite side of the equator!
Ok, now I'm goin' out anda killin' me some weeds!!!!
Weeds are a bear. In fact, I've discovered that any kind of yard / landscape work is about six times more difficult than it should be, really.
The Redhead and I converted our tiny little side-lawn into a garden with a gravel path and paver stone patio...talk about HEAVY...
