Cept that we have a $500 excess and the windscreen costs less. I hate forking out money on the stupid car! Last year we had a window smashed in - again, less than $500 so we had to pay it. What's the point?!
Hi Jezz - I think with the free windscreen there is no excess, but I know for our insurance you have to 'opt in' to get the free windscreen. Worth checking :). I hate it when things like that happen...feels like throwing money away, and I get your point that sometimes insurance does too!
I think we call excess our deductible here, but here glass doesn't count in the deductible. So, the insurance pays the whole thing, with no extra cost for the insuree. I hope that excess works out the same way.
And if that's a metaphor for something else, I hope you've got full coverage there too.
Angie just said what I was going to say. I had the same thing happen to me and lost the windshield, and despite a $500 deductable, the comprehensive covers glass from the beginning. This was in the 90's, and I think the new one was around $250...and completely covered. It can't hurt to ask. I almost went out and bought a new one because I thought my deductable wouldn't allow me to replace the windshield, but then my mom told me that glass is usually covered. SO I called, not hopeful, and was pleasantly surprised.

did you know comprehensive car insurance often covers on replacement windscreen a year?
those mobile windscreen dudes are really good too... used 'em twice and they were fast!
hope that saves you some stress at least... sounds like you don't need any more right now! :)
